Are you buying, or are we??? <P>Some of this season\'s highlighted PITCHERS:<P><strong>2009<\/strong><P><strong>FRIDAY:9/4: GREGG<\/strong> I am tempted to put you down for paying for everyone from now until the end of the season.  I knew when you came into tonight\'s game we were in for a rough inning.  Five runs rough I didn\'t see coming, but I\'m done with you.  Enough.  Give me Marshall, Guzman, Berg, Anyone.  Just not Gregg.  That\'s it.  Officially for the rest of \'09 beers from the pitcher are on you Gregg.  Until further notice.  You\'re just so bad.<P><strong>TUESDAY:9/1: WELLS<\/strong> comes up huge again for the Cubs becoming the first rookie since Kerry Wood in 1998 to win 10 games.  This is the Wells we need throughout September if we\'re going to have a chance of catching the teams in front of us for the Wild Card.  This one\'s on us Wells...keep it up!!!<P><strong>MONDAY: 7/6: WELLS<\/strong> looked great again today notching his fourth consecutive win.  Great having him in the rotation and Marshall in the pen.  Only a couple of mistakes and plenty of Cubs offense to get his back in this one.  Six of eight for the Cubs, four in a row for Wells.  Keep it up man, this one is on us!<P><strong>FRIDAY: 6/5:<\/strong> <strong>ZAMBRANO<\/strong> notches his 100th win as a Cub pitcher...putting him at 100 overall for his career, of course.  Struck out seven, dominated the game bac from his six game suspension and for good measure, knocked the opposing pitchers toss out of the park for the 18th home run of his career.  A huge day for Z and at a great time for the Cubs.  Forget Zambrano, this round for everyone in the Prose and Ivy blogosphere is on me!  Keep it up Z, Go Cubs Go!<P><strong>WEDNESDAY: 4/15:<\/strong> Today was simply not <strong>HARDEN<\/strong>\'s day.  Got roughed up early at home and to make things worse, he was beat by Jason Marquis.  Ridiculous.  Harden treats us today.  And with losing to Marquis mixed in...make it a double.  Come back strong Harden, shake this one off buddy.<P><strong>MONDAY:4/13: LILLY<\/strong> opens up Wrigley strong with one hit over 6 2/3 IP with 8K\'s and the win over the Rockies! Can\'t think of a better bunch of reasons to hook up Ted with a cold one on us!  Keep it up Teddy, Cards are up next!<P>Spring Training results:<P><strong>SUNDAY: 3/22: ZAMBRANO<\/strong> was the man today! Selected as the Cubs\' Opening Day starter for the fifth year running, he showed why today.  6IP, 6K\'s plus a double and a run scored.  Definitely the ace of the staff.  Big Z was the reason we won today and the reason we\'ll win a bunch more in \'09.  Z, this one is on Prose and Ivy!<P><strong>THURSDAY: 3/5: HEILMAN<\/strong> steps up and keeps pace with Marshall throwing 3 strong innings giving up only one hit and racking up 3 K\'s!  I fully expect Marshall to finish ahead of Heilman in the race for the fifth slot in the rotation, but today Heilman was amazin\'.  Prose and Ivy has this round Heilman, awesome outing today man!  Keep it up and you may just prove me wrong after all!<P><strong>WEDNESDAY: 3/4: GAUDIN<\/strong> got roughed up in his start against Cleveland.  Four hits, 3ER\'s, one HR in 3 IP.  I get giving our key pitchers meaningful innings by pitching them early.  Good thing we\'re not seriously considering Gaudin as a starter.  An ugly outing to be sure...Gaudin, sorry dude, but tonight you\'re buying!  Pull it together and better outing next time!<P><strong>TUESDAY: 3/3: MARSHALL<\/strong> is treated to a cold one!  Looking to secure the fifth spot in the rotation, Marshall came out strong today with three perfect innings, including one strike out against the Oakland A\'s.  Keep this up Marsh and people will talk a lot less about Peavy and care a lot less about taking a gamble on Schilling.  Nice job today, this one is on Prose and Ivy!<P><strong>2008<\/strong><P><strong>TUESDAY: 9/23: MARSHALL<\/strong>, this one is on us.  I was at the game tonight so I know what a fluke single that was by Santana that started all the mess for you this evening.  Aside from a couple bad breaks and missing some key production in the lineup to back you up, you did well tonight and earned a spot in the bullpen for the post season, officially.  Drink up now because it\'s about to get VERY interesting from here on out!  Go Cubs Go!<P><strong>MONDAY: 9/22: MARQUIS<\/strong> is the man tonight and Prose and Ivy is buying him two!  One for the game he pitched and one for the grand slam he sent to win the ballgame (easy to forgive giving up four runs when you match that in RBI\'s)!  Pitchers are being shuffled and we\'re starting to get the four man rotation set.  Marquis won\'t be a starter, but he\'d definitely be valuable if he were to come out of the bullpen and pitch like he did tonight...and hit like this too!  Good game Marquis!<P><strong>SATURDAY: 9/20: LILLY, MARMOL and WOOD<\/strong>...we captured the division today for the second year in a row...CUBS ARE NL CENTRAL DIVISION CHAMPS!!!  Prose and Ivy buys for everyone!!!<P><strong>FRIDAY: 9/19: ZAMBRANO<\/strong> buys this time...it pains me to do this...but it also pained to watch him pitch today.  Not what we all expected following a no-hitter.  Capturing the division will have to wait for another day.<P><strong>WEDNESDAY: 9/17: GUZMAN<\/strong> buys for everyone!  Come on Guzman.  It\'s September.  2/3\'s of an inning pitched and you give up 3 hits in facing only four batters while letting three earned runs cross the plate?  That is unacceptable.  No one wearing a Cub uniform today was all that impressive, especially on the mound.  But it\'s too late in the season to be turning in outing like this.  Free beer is supposed to be fun, right?  This one isn\'t.  This one is not fun at all.  <P><strong>TUESDAY: 9/16<\/strong>: We\'re making it a double!  One for <strong>DEMPSTER<\/strong> and one for <strong>WOOD<\/strong>!  Dempster reaches his personal career high in wins with 16 after a great performance including 9 strike outs and Wood steps up to earn the save with 2 huge strike outs, including one against a red-hot Prince Fielder to end the game.  Enjoy boys, you\'ve earned it after today\'s outing!<P><strong>MONDAY: 9/15: LILLY<\/strong> gives up only one and in return, we pour him one.  After Z\'s no-hitter, Lilly came out strong and held the \'Stros hitless for another 6 innings before giving up the Astros\' lone hit in the seventh.  Lilly\'s 15th win on the year, in great September form!  Good game Lilly, keep it up man!<P><strong>SUNDAY: 9/14: ZAMBRANO<\/strong>.  No hitter.  No brainer.  Big Z\'s return to the rotation results in the first no-hitter for the Cubs in over 36 years.  This one is definitely on us.  Big Z is back baby.  Awesome.<P><strong>THURSDAY 9/11:<\/strong> Has to be <strong>HARDEN<\/strong>.  First game back and he throws a great game.  Nothing real serious given up on 5 hits in 6 innings with 3 K\'s.  Harden is now 10-2 on the season, another Cub in double digits for wins and a presence we\'ll definitely need to do anything special come October.  This one\'s on us Harden.  Enjoy it now...you\'ll be needed again in another five days or so.<P><strong>TUESDAY 7/29: ZAMBRANO <\/strong>pitches 8 strong innings, strikes out 9 and the Cubs take the 2nd game of an important 4 game series against the rival Brew Crew.  Oh and he broke a bat over his knee too.  Nice touch.<P><strong>SUNDAY 7/27 SAMARDZIJA<\/strong>.  This one is a pleasure for us to buy.  Loved this kid in the Spring...thrilled to see him getting a shot this Summer in the Show.  2 innings today, 0 runs and 3 strike outs.  While Wood is out, between him and Marmol, we should be good to go!  Awesome.<P><strong>SUNDAY 7/20: DEMPSTER<\/strong>, please.  Who else.  Dempster and Wood switch positions, both become All-Stars and both contribute to making the Cubs the strong team they are so far in 2008.  Dempster comes through big tonight with 8 innings pitched giving up only 6 hits, 0ER and striking out seven.  First road win for Demp.  When you\'re pitching at home like him though...road wins are gravy.  Way to go to Demp.<P><strong>WEDNESDAY 7/9: ZAMBRANO<\/strong> without a doubt...in fact...tonight we buy you a whole keg!  8IP, 1ER, 1H, and 5K\'s.  This one is definitely on us Ace.<P><strong>MONDAY 6/30: LILLY<\/strong> has been amazing lately on the road (pretty much the only Cubs pitcher who has) and he continued it in today\'s game.  His line was 8.0IP, 7 H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 5K, 0HR dropping his ERA to 4.56.  This one is definitely on us Lilly...\'one for the road\'...so to speak.<P><strong>SUNDAY 6/22: DEMPSTER<\/strong> comes up huge in the weekend finale of the Sox interleague series.  8IP, 1 ER, 1 BB.  Absolutely dominated this game and never has a beer on us been more deserving.  Great game Dempster...9-0 at home...keep it up Demp!<P><strong>SATURDAY 6/21: WOOD<\/strong>, this one is definitely on us.  While it took a nine run fourth to bail out Marquis today who gave up five runs, you came in and struck out the only batter you faced making sure the Cubs secured the win and you secured your 19th save of the young season.  Keep it up man.<P><strong>FRIDAY 6/20: LILLY<\/strong> was as good as we needed him to be today.  Aside from a couple of pitches that came back to bite him in the second and third innings that left the park, Lilly recorded 8K\'s and gave up only one other run.  Wood got the win so of course he was in the running but Prose and Ivy respects Lilly\'s outing today.  We\'re buying for Lilly today (but of course, feel free to take that beer and give it to Ramirez who came through and bailed you out of the \'L\' this afternoon)!  And a bonus shot since it came against the White Sox!<P><strong>NOTE: Computer on DL from end of May to mid-June!<\/strong><P><strong>TUESDAY 5/27: MARSHALL<\/strong> was the man tonight!  Despite freezing conditions at Wrigley and getting plunked on his pitching hand in the first by a comebacker to the mound, he pitched seven strong innings going the longest he\'s gone so far in his career giving up only one run, four hits and two walks.  Pick your poison Marshall...this one is on Prose and Ivy!  Way to go man, keep it up! document.write('<a href="http://s170.photobucket.com/albums/u271/ryanmaloney_photo/?action=view&current=hendrylee.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u271/ryanmaloney_photo/hendrylee.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"><\/a><P><strong>GM Hendry and Lee.<\/strong><P>Every regular season we\'ll be keeping tabs on one guy who MUST perform up to expectations for the Cubs to continue repeating in the Central Division and hopefully finally make a run through October!<P>Lee\'s current 2009 stats:<strong> .309 AVG, .395 OBP, .585 SLG, 35 HR, 111 RBI, 1 Baby.<\/strong> First time since 2005 Lee puts up 30 or more HR\'s in a season.<P>Lee is one of the biggest reasons the team had their best April last season, hit 10,000 wins all-time, had a 55-26 record at Wrigley and captured the NL Central Division crown for the second year in a row!!!  Lee\'s final stats for 2008 (all of which fluctuated throughout the season): .291 AVG, .462 SLG%, .361 OBP, 20 HR, 90 RBI.<P>(Note: Here were my thoughts on Lee during Spring Training 2008...good thing his stats turned around when the games started to count: As of my post on 3/18 Lee is having a ROUGH Spring.  3-for-39 so far with about as many walks as strike outs, only four RBI\'s and a BA of .154.  Let\'s hope he\'s just warming up and once we get closer to our everyday lineup he gets comfortable with the guys around him and his stats improve drastically.  Do your thing D-Lee...seriously, SOON, Opening Day will be here before you know it!  (And so will the end of September, so be sure to continue to show up and deliver!)<P>Of course, 2008 didn\'t turn out the way Lee or anyone else would\'ve liked.  Here\'s to a horrible Spring, a great regular season and a postseason with a happy ending to report in the D-Lee News of 2009!!  His final 2009 Spring stats: <strong>19-for-58, 5BB, 9SO, .369 OBP, .458 SLG, .322 AVG<\/strong>.  Go Cubs Go!!!<\/li>');
